ABOUT US - NATIONAL HEALTH STUDENTS ASSOCIATION OF GHANA (NAHSAG)

NAHSAG AT A GLANCE

The National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) is a national representative body made up of all health students and fresh graduates in and from the various health training institutions and universities across Ghana.

NAHSAG was established and registered on 1st August, 2005 and was led by an interim team under the leadership of Dr. Ayew Afriyie (current Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore Constituency) till a nationally elected executive body took office in April, 2007.

At the 44th Annual Congress of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) held at the University for Development Studies, Wa Campus on 25th -29th August, 2010, NAHSAG was ratified as a Bloc.

NAHSAG has since been in force towards promoting the welfare of all health students in and outside Ghana. NAHSAG currently includes health students in both public and private health training institutions and foreign affiliates, Ghanaians reading health programs in other countries.


VISION STATEMENT

Our Vision is to create enabling platform for the development of distinguished health professionals with liberating effect on the good people of Ghana in particular and the international community at large.


MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to offer newly graduated and future health professionals in Ghana, a comprehensive introduction to national health issues and empower students in Ghanaian health training institutions by using their knowledge and other capabilities whiles under training for the benefits of society.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) is made up of the following elected and appointed officers:


NAHSAG ASSOCIATED SCHOOLS

Northern Sector Schools:

This sector includes all Schools in the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper east, and upper west region of Ghana;

This sector includes schools in the Central, Western, Eastern, Greater Accra and Volta region of Ghana;

OUR MEMBERS

The members of nahsag are classified as:

A Full Member: All Health Students (Including Post Graduate and Post Basic/Diploma students) and Fresh Graduates of Ghana (National Service and Houseman ship personnel), who are duly studying or have graduated not more than 2 years in and from an accredited health institution shall be considered full members of the NAHSAG.

Associate Member is other Student Associations whose activities have a bearing on Health and have been accorded Associate Membership stakes by NAHSAG and shall pay the associate membership dues as agreed upon by the General Assembly (GA)

Honorary Membership is conferred on an individual who has rendered marked service to the Association; honorary membership is reviewed every two (2) years by the General Assembly on the advice of the National Executive Committee (NEC). Honorary Life Membership is conferred subject to 2/3 majority vote at a GA meeting

Friend of NAHSAG: Any person or institution who wishes to support or advance the aims of NAHSAG both morally and financially shall be a “Friend of NAHSAG” subject to approval of the GA

All the alumni of Blocs and NMAs shall be alumni members and shall pay alumni dues as agreed upon by the executive council.


OUR ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE

Congress: This is the highest decision making body of the association which is made up of Blocs and National Member Associations (NMAs) under NAHSAG. Congress takes decisions on national policies pertaining to the health sector and health students and resolutions are passed. The annual residential congress also creates the platform for the election of national officers who will spearhead the functioning of the association.

General Assembly (GA): GA is the highest legislative body of the association comprised of National executives, Presidents, General Secretaries, Treasurers/Financial Secretaries and Women commissioners of all Blocs and NMAs, Zonal Executives, NAHSAG Liaison/Representatives, Patrons, Heads/Chairpersons and Secretaries of all committees, commissions and boards formed in accordance with the constitution.

National Executive Committee (NEC): NEC is the governing body of the association whose main responsibility is to spearhead the functions of the association. It has a composition of President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, General Secretary, Financial Controller, Coordinating Secretary, Women’s Commissioner and Public and Media Relations Officer.
